It always seemed like my life was lacking something. . .
I remember several times in my life when I was passionate about something. It always seemed to have to do with wanting something that I did not have. It could have been that aquarium when I was 8, the Camaro when I was 17, my wife when I was 21, or even that promotion I got a few years ago! When that passion for something is there you will do anything to achieve or gain what you want and desire. What an incredible sense of satisfaction when it happens. It fulfills you like nothing else. I remember when I got that dream promotion. I had always done a good job for my employer, but it seemed like I always got passed up for the promotions. A few years ago, I heard about an upcoming job in the management ranks and I decided that I was willing to do anything to get it. I put in extra hours; I arrived early and stayed late. I did the jobs no one else wanted to do. I even did the little things that no one else could see. I made sure that I was valuable to the organization and that they saw I was passionate about my job and their company. It was during this time that I realized that my job wasn’t just a job. It was an expression of who I am and what I am. That passion paid off, I was given the promotion and have not looked back since.
Want to know what is even better? Discovering your passion for things that are not material. I found that I have a passion for God! I am one of those people that became a Christian at a very early age. I was brought up in a Christian home and I even had the privilege of going to a Christian school growing up. That does not mean I was always passionate about God. I had my ups and downs like everyone does and yes I even did things I am not proud of, but I always knew God was there and that I needed him. It always seemed like my life was lacking something and I was always passionate about getting something I did not have. That left me searching for what it was I was missing. Then while in college, I realized that a passion for God can fulfill you and make you complete. Now I have a relationship with God that is not just a buzz word, it is real. I have come to understand that the things of the world are temporary, but eternal life with God, well its forever. I realized that if I gave God control over my life He had plans for my well being (Jeremiah 29:11). It is so satisfying to know that God has a plan and a purpose for my life. And the truth is He also has plans and purposes for you too!
